Last year, at Valley Mountain Regional Center (VMRC) we served about 17,900 consumers. The charts on page two tell you about the consumers we serve. You’ll also see how well we are doing in meeting our goals and in fulfilling our contract with DDS.
At VMRC, we want to improve every year, do better than the state average, and meet or exceed the DDS standard. As you can see in this report, we did well in the goals of (1) More children live with families, (2) More adults live in home settings*, (3) Fewer children live in large facilities (more than 6 people), and (4) Fewer adults live in large facilities (more than 6 people). Although we met our goals each of these areas we were below the state average in the following areas (1) More adults live in home settings*, and (2) Fewer adults live in large facilities (more than 6 people).
One barrier to the community has been the workforce shortage as our providers struggle to attract and hire direct support professionals. While we make progress every month in the area of transportation, we continue to have many people on an unmet needs list for commercial and supplemental transportation. And finally, there remains a small percentage, about 10% of the consumers, who are either not ready to return to day programs or no longer desire these services but have not replaced the service with another option yet.

Last year, at Valley Mountain Regional Center (VMRC) we served about 16,350 consumers. The charts on page two tell you about the consumers we serve. You’ll also see how well we are doing in meeting our goals and in fulfilling our contract with DDS.
At VMRC, we want to improve every year, do better than the state average, and meet or exceed the DDS standard. As you can see in this report, we did well in the following four goal areas, (1) More children live with families, (2) More adults live in home settings*, (3) Fewer children live in large facilities (more than 6 people), and (4) Fewer adults live in large facilities (more than 6 people). But we still need to improve on the goal of Fewer consumers live in developmental centers. Valley Mountain Regional Center serves just under 18,000 consumers in our region and 2632 of these individuals are served in our Early Start program for children 0-3 years old. Our consumers are served throughout a five-county region with 57.7% living in San Joaquin County, 34.6% live in Stanislaus County, 2.8% live in Tuolumne County, 2.2% in Amador County, and 2.3% live in Calaveras County.

Performance Report for Valley Mountain Regional Center
Every year, the Department of Developmental Services (DDS) contracts with regional centers in California to serve consumers and families. And, every year DDS looks at how well the regional centers are doing. This report will give you information about your regional center.
Last year, at Valley Mountain Regional Center (VMRC) we served about 15,000 consumers. The charts on page two tell you about the consumers we serve. You’ll also see how well we are doing in meeting our goals and in fulfilling our contract with DDS.
At VMRC, we want to improve every year, do better than the state average, and meet or exceed the DDS standard. As you can see in this report, we did well on the following goals: (1) Fewer consumers live in developmental centers, (2) More children live with families, (3) More adults live in home settings, and (4) Fewer adults live in large facilities (more than 6 people). But, we still need to improve on our goal of fewer children living in large facilities (more than 6 people).
Overall, statistics show that 37% of VMRC consumers are eligible for services due to a diagnosis of Mild/Moderate Intellectual Disability which is an increase of 2% above last year. This is followed by 34% due to Autism, down 1% from the previous year. The remainder of our population is made up of individuals diagnosed with the following: 12%–Seizure Disorder, 9%–Cerebral Palsy, 5%–Severe/Profound Intellectual Disability, and 3%–5th category.
The majority of individuals receiving services from VMRC (81%) live with parents/guardians in the family home. Those residing independently with ILS/SLS assistance make up 7%, and another 9% live in Community Care Facilities or Intermediate Care Facilities.
The most growth has occurred in those individuals 0-2 years of age with an increase of 3% over last year, from 15% to 18%. Consumers in the 6-21 years of age group continue to be the largest, comprising 35% of our population.
The ethnicity make up of VMRC consumers served indicates the largest increase occurred in the Asian community with 3% more than the previous year, closely followed by Hispanics with an increase of 2%, and a slight decrease in the Caucasian population of 1%.

1. Meet and coordinate services with individual families and foster parents caring for minor consumers. 4. Offer environmental assessments and appropriate mobility equipment to enable consumers to live in their family home. 10. Offer child/adolescent psychiatric services for consumers not served by the mental health system. 11. Offer group Parent Behavioral Training classes and Behavioral Instructional Services in English and Spanish to support parent education of positive behavioral interventions to reduce maladaptive behaviors and increase independence. 12. Increase wrap-around services for children living with families. Have used a combination of in-depth behavioral assessments, and then a combination of hands on work with consumer and parent training in the home to reduce problem behaviors. Develop sexual awareness programming for adolescents. 13. VMRC clinical staff will develop procedures and work with service coordinators to secure behavioral services that are needed by all consumers, both children and adult.
