Valley Mountain Regional Center (VMRC) is committed to emergency preparation planning, and monitoring and support during times of emergency in San Joaquin, Stanislaus, Amador, Calaveras, and Tuolumne counties for all of the individuals that we serve, our service providers, and our staff. We look for instances of extreme heat or cold, wildfires, earthquakes, flooding, and power outages that impact the people we serve to activate our emergency response system. We also understand how emergencies can impact the people we serve, our service providers, and our staff, therefore we are committed to consistent emergency preparedness planning and training. VMRC follows the lead of actual first responders (police department, fire department, rescue, etc…) in carrying out our emergency response plan. We collaborate with emergency response professionals in all the above counties to ensure the individuals we serve, our service providers, and our staff are protected and supported during times of emergency.

Current VMRC Emergency Preparedness Initiatives

1. Emergency Backup Battery Power Initiative

• A partnership between 21 regional centers, the Department of Developmental Services (DDS), California Foundation of Independent Living Centers (CFLIC) Disability, Disaster, Access, and Resources (DDAR) program.

2. Go Kit Initiative

• A partnership between the 21 regional centers, DDS, and Disability Rights California (DRC) .

3. Wildfire Preparedness Planning

• A partnership between the 21 regional centers, DDS, the Association of Regional Center Agencies (ARCA), and the American Red Cross (ARC).

4. Deaf+ and Low Vision Emergency Preparedness Initiative

• A partnership with the 21 regional center Emergency Coordinators and Deaf and Hard of Hearing Specialists.
